Mano Farm is a 1.3 acre certified organic seed, vegetable and herb farm located in Ojai, California. We farm year-round, emphasizing the use of human labor and hand tools. On-farm apprenticeship, interns, and work trade opportunities are primarily available through the WWOOF-USA network. We offer Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) memberships to residents of the Ojai Valley and sell our seeds through our sister company, All Good Things Organic Seeds. We are also proponents of food justice, a movement that seeks to increase the availability of nutritious, healthy food to low-income individuals and families. Low income and fully subsidized CSA shares are available, and we also accept EBT/SNAP (food stamp) benefits for CSA payments. Contact us for more details.

“All Good Things Organic Seeds: We think about these kinds of things.”
These pictures are of Jimmy Nardello and shishito peppers that we started in our greenhouse for summer transplanting and would ideally like to offer seed from in our catalog next year. In the case of the former, we began with seed from Seeds of Change and FedCo, and with the latter, we started with seed from Terroir Seeds and Baker Creek Heirloom Seed. All the seed was started at the same time, under the same conditions with the same planting techniques. The difference is stark: virtually zero germination on the peppers we received from Baker Creek and Seeds of Change, and decent germination on FedCo and Terroir, with a great deal of room for improvement.
Of course, our greenhouse doesn’t resemble anything close to laberatory conditions for germ testing, yet neither do our customer’s gardens and farmer’s fields. Quality means being able to grow food from the seeds you buy, rather than blaming yourself for having a “black thumb” when your seeds don’t grow. When your plants don’t grow, it’s not always your lack of skill, it’s because someone cared more about selling you on theideaof growing food rather than a quality seed crop.
The small scale nature of our seed production means that we can emphasize quality and accountability every step of the way.
